Baghdad scores in Mercer survey as having the worst quality of life
We all dream of having a good life where we have everything we need to live comfortably. This not only includes income but also the availability of resources, peace, etc. In this case, Mercer has published the results of its survey where it ranks cities according to their quality of life. Vienna comes to the top of the list while Baghdad scores as the city having the worst quality of life.
This ranking is one of the most comprehensive and complete of its kind. According to Mercer, it helps multinational companies and other employers to fairly compensate their employers when they are placed on international assignments.
Vienna, the capital of Austria, has a very low rate of crime in a city with 1.7 million people. With its ornate buildings and parks, they have also managed to reduce the cost of its annual transport ticket to 1 Euro per day.
In 2011, Baghdad was still the worst place to live, according to Mercer, considering both life quality and safety. The city has been affected by turmoil, political unrest, poor security enforcement, and attacks on local people and foreigners. Even in 2006, residents of the capital city showed no surprise when they saw their city on the list, and it has remained there for over a decade.
In 2018, Baghdad, Iraq continues to be the worst place to live. The city has suffered severe infrastructural damage from a series of wars. Ground violence continues and is on the rise. On top of this, it continues to suffer threats from ISIS.
Mercer takes the following important aspects into consideration:
- Political and social environment.
- Socio-cultural environment.
- Economic environment.
- Medical and health services.
- Schools and education
- Transportation and other public services
- Consumer goods
- Natural environment
